This week, aim to Read, Pray, and Sing at least twice. Pick two days and spend intentional time together as a family.
In the book of Malachi, God addresses His people and their leaders with harsh but truthful words: though they had returned from exile, they were still living as though nothing had changed. They brought flawed sacrifices, dishonored one another in marriage, ignored the needy, and withheld what belonged to God. Malachi warns that the “day of the Lord” is coming—a day of judgment for the wicked, who will be like burned stubble, and a day of blessing for the faithful, whose “sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings.”
This story points forward to our Lord Jesus Christ—the promised Savior. Malachi announces: “Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me.” (Mal. 3:1) Through John the Baptist that prophecy begins to be fulfilled. Jesus is the Snake‑Crusher, who comes to save His people and will return to judge the world. Because of Him, those who turn to God have a great future.
Gospel Connection — The passage shows both the justice and the mercy of God. It reminds us that sin deserves judgment, yet God provides a Savior. Jesus took the judgment we deserve, so that by trusting in Him we can be part of the people who will be saved on the great and awesome day of the Lord.
